Hands on Towel
Hands on Towel strips Carole Feuerman’s realism down to a fragment: shoulders, upper back, arms and hands gathering a towel around the head. With the face concealed, identity gives way to gesture, texture and touch. The terrycloth folds, damp skin and carefully modeled fingers create an almost tactile encounter, while the wall-mounted format places the work between sculpture and relief. The composition connects Feuerman’s later swimmer imagery to her long exploration of the fragmented body, proving that a partial figure can carry as much psychological presence as a full portrait.
