Catalina
Catalina belongs to the foundation of Carole Feuerman’s swimmer imagery. Conceived as a wall-mounted high-relief figure, the swimmer appears newly emerged from water, with goggles pushed onto her cap, droplets on her skin and an expression poised between fatigue and satisfaction. The deliberately cropped body makes the work read simultaneously as sculpture and portrait, a strategy Feuerman has revisited in resin, color variations and graphic editions. More than an early motif, Catalina established the visual grammar that would define decades of her work: water as transformation, the athletic body as narrative, and stillness as psychological space.
