The Whistler
The Whistler — Le Siffleur — is the walking version of Zareski's central figure: the same character, unhurried, hands free, whistling as he goes. The feet stay planted and outsized, since the whole œuvre rests on that image of humanity held to a common ground; what changes is that he is now mid-stride rather than at rest. It is the most animated member of the family and among the largest, from 85 cm up to monumental pieces, in bronze, resin, and resin with silver, finished in violet, blue, red, and red with gold. And visitors keep finding a familiar face in him: a well-known American singer, the one whose biggest hit is a song about being happy. The resemblance is unintended — and almost nobody misses it.
