Carole A. Feuerman American, b. 1945

Carole A. Feuerman (b. 1945, New York) is a pioneering figure in superrealist sculpture, internationally recognized for her monumentally scaled, technically exacting depictions of the human form. Best known for her iconic swimmer series, including Innertube and The Golden Mean, Feuerman merges hyperreal surface detail with a commanding spatial presence, creating works that function as both intimate portraits and public monuments.

Beginning her career in the 1960s as a painter and illustrator, she transitioned to sculpture in the 1970s, developing fragmented wall works before expanding in the 1990s into large-scale resin and bronze figures. Her meticulous process serves a conceptual focus on embodiment, resilience, and collective memory.

Feuerman’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in numerous museum and public collections. In 2011, she founded the Feuerman Sculpture Foundation to advance contemporary sculpture and public engagement.

Her honors include the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center, among other international distinctions recognizing her enduring contribution to contemporary art.
