Kengai Hanami is a monumental, one-of-a-kind tree sculpture that powerfully expresses ANNALU’s exploration of nature, impermanence, and poetic balance.

Inspired by the Japanese concepts of Kengai (cascading form) and Hanami (the contemplation of blossoms), the work depicts a tree growing against gravity, suspended between fragility and strength. Its dark, organic roots appear to emerge and descend through a luminous resinglass core, while an explosion of vibrant pink blossoms crowns the composition, symbolizing renewal, beauty, and the fleeting nature of life.

Standing 220 × 115 × 65 cm (87 × 45 × 26 in), the sculpture combines resinglass, natural roots, ink, and paper, materials that are emblematic of ANNALU’s practice. The contrast between the raw, almost primordial roots and the translucent, light-filled base creates a striking visual tension, enhanced by the delicacy of the flowering canopy. Light interacts with the resinglass column, giving the work an almost spiritual presence, as if the tree were simultaneously grounded and ascending.

Kengai Hanami is both a contemporary sculpture and a meditative object, blending Eastern philosophy with a distinctly European sensibility. It speaks to collectors drawn to nature-inspired contemporary art, monumental statement pieces, and sculptures that carry strong symbolic and emotional resonance.

This artwork is a unique original, ideal for prominent architectural spaces, private collections, or institutional settings seeking an iconic, immersive work by ANNALU.
