Richard Orlinski in the United States: Sculpture, Public Space and Markowicz Fine Art

A gallery exhibition and a sculpture encountered on a city street offer different ways of discovering an artist. Richard Orlinski’s American story includes both. This selection follows Markowicz Fine Art’s relationship with the sculptor alongside public projects presented by their own organizers in Florida and California.

Miami, 2015: the beginning of the MFA relationship

Markowicz Fine Art’s relationship with Richard Orlinski began with a presentation in Miami in December 2015. For the gallery, this was the starting point of a continuing engagement with his work in the United States.

That history is best understood through specific exhibitions and sculptures, rather than a general claim about representation. It provides the background to the gallery’s subsequent presentations and to conversations with collectors encountering Orlinski’s work today.

Dallas, 2022: Born Wild in Texas

From October 15 to November 15, 2022, Markowicz Fine Art presented Born Wild in Texas in Dallas. The exhibition included works created for the occasion, bringing Texas-inspired imagery into Orlinski’s sculptural vocabulary.

The Dallas Collection gives that connection a tangible form. Kong figures and barrel compositions become settings for graphic markings and regional color references. Seen in the context of the exhibition, these elements connect a recognizable sculptural language with a particular place.

For a collector, the exhibition history offers a useful route into the work: not only what the sculpture depicts, but the circumstances for which it was created.

Miami Beach, 2022–2023: sculpture on Lincoln Road

A separate public-art project brought Orlinski’s work to Lincoln Road during the 2022–2023 season. The Lincoln Road Business Improvement District presented twelve monumental sculptures along its eight-block pedestrian promenade, including Wild Kong and a crocodile.

Here, the encounter was not confined to an exhibition room. Sculpture became part of a route through the city, seen among storefronts, trees and people. That setting invites a different kind of attention: recognition from a distance, followed by the possibility of walking around the object.

Beverly Hills, 2024: Rodeo Drive and the Beverly Wilshire

In 2024, the Rodeo Drive Committee, in partnership with the City of Beverly Hills, presented Orlinski’s sculptures as part of Rodeo Drive Celebrates Fashion. The project placed works along Rodeo Drive and inside the Beverly Wilshire, with an exhibition period announced from August through November.

Wild Kong, Standing Bear, Panda and Crocodile were among the works named in the organizer’s announcement. Our Rodeo Drive exhibition record documents this chapter of his public presence in California.

Burbank, 2026: a walk among monumental animals

Downtown Burbank x Richard Orlinski ran from May 12 to September 7, 2026. Visit Burbank documented seven monumental sculptures along the AMC Walkway, including Standing Bear, Crocodile and Wild Kong, in a free outdoor presentation.

A walking route makes movement part of the viewing experience. The angle from which a figure is seen changes as the visitor approaches or passes it. For Orlinski’s faceted forms, that is a useful way to consider the relationship between silhouette, surface and surrounding space.

From a public encounter to an individual work

These projects belong to different exhibition contexts. Markowicz Fine Art’s Miami and Dallas presentations are part of the gallery’s own history. The Lincoln Road, Beverly Hills and Burbank projects were presented by their respective organizers and are included here to document the artist’s wider American presence.

For someone drawn to a sculpture seen in public, the next question is often more personal: which work, at which scale, in which setting? Looking at materials, finish, dimensions, condition and the documentation of an individual sculpture brings that conversation into focus.
