A Reflection Beyond Reality

Christophe Gaignon’s work reconsiders the mirror as a medium for artistic expression rather than a conventional decorative or functional surface. Through his experimentation with shaped glass, reflective materials and optical phenomena, the artist creates sculptural objects that continually respond to their environment.

In Miroir Concave double Rose & Or & 3 lentilles (2022), Gaignon develops this approach through a monumental circular composition of rose-colored glass and three optical lenses. The overlapping elements suggest a constellation of reflective forms, recalling the visual language of celestial objects while creating an intimate dialogue with the surrounding architecture.

The work is particularly compelling in its treatment of color. Pink and golden tones interact with the mirror’s curved surfaces, revealing changing shades and reflections as the viewer moves through the space. The polished brass mount provides a carefully crafted structural element that complements the glass composition.

At 118 cm in diameter, the artwork possesses a strong architectural presence. Its scale allows it to function as an independent wall sculpture, while its reflective qualities establish an ongoing relationship with the interior in which it is displayed.

The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, explicitly identifying it as an original and unique creation. This combination of technical experimentation, distinctive visual language and documented uniqueness makes the sculpture a representative example of Gaignon’s artistic practice.
