Midnight
Midnight is the series that Reine Paradis was making when the 2020 documentary Queen of Paradis followed her work. Her photographs are constructed rather than found: each scene is sketched and conceived before a single frame is shot, then built with costumes, crafted accessories and origami pieces, and staged across the American landscape. She appears in her own images, dressed in colours that cut against the setting, so that the photograph reads as a scene from a world that exists only for the camera.
