A painted line can separate two areas and connect them at the same time. In L’Atlas’s paintings, precise structures meet sprayed color, drips and layered marks. The name that underlies the image becomes less important than the relationships it generates: between foreground and background, a measured edge and a freer gesture, a repeated sign and its changing surroundings.
