Eva Armisén: Finding Joy in the Everyday
Featured Artist at Markowicz Fine Art
Internationally acclaimed Spanish artist Eva Armisén continues to touch audiences around the world with her emotionally rich, visually uplifting works. Known for her colorful compositions, handwritten phrases, and whimsical figures, Armisén creates art that celebrates life’s quiet, heartfelt moments — a vision that resonates deeply in today’s fast-paced world.
From her early days in Zaragoza, Spain, Eva used drawing as a means of self-expression, a tool to navigate shyness and connect with others. Her artistic path led her to study Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and later in Amsterdam at the Rietveld Akademie, where she honed her distinctive visual language. Her work captures the warmth of everyday experiences — from walks in the rain and restful moments at home to scenes of family, love, and quiet reflection.
What makes Armisén’s art uniquely impactful is its combination of tender imagery and introspective handwritten text. Rather than portraying dramatic scenes, she focuses on the emotional depth of small, universal moments. Her wide-eyed characters and gentle phrases create an immediate sense of familiarity and comfort, inviting viewers into a shared emotional space.
Eva Armisén’s popularity extends across continents, with an especially strong presence in South Korea, where she is affectionately called “The Painter of Happiness.” She has held exhibitions in Seoul, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei, Melbourne, Lisbon, and beyond, always emphasizing themes of connection, optimism, and resilience.
In the United States, Markowicz Fine Art is proud to be a longtime collaborator of Eva Armisén, presenting her work at leading contemporary art fairs such as Art Miami and Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary. Her growing presence in Florida — through solo and group exhibitions at our Miami and Dallas galleries — reflects a deepening appreciation for her unique ability to express emotional authenticity through art.
Her creative reach goes far beyond the canvas. Armisén has partnered with brands like Coca-Cola, Nike, and major cities including New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., where her joyful designs have appeared in public art campaigns. She is also an accomplished author and illustrator. Her illustrated book Mom Is A Haenyeo — a tribute to Korea’s traditional female divers — became a bestseller and played a part in UNESCO’s 2016 recognition of the Haenyeo as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
In 2022, Armisén returned to her hometown for a major retrospective, Alegría, showcasing over 200 pieces across painting, sculpture, and ceramics. The exhibition charted her artistic evolution while reinforcing the timeless themes that run through all her work: love, memory, and the beauty of everyday resilience.
Armisén’s creativity is deeply rooted in her personal life. Her mother, sister, and daughter are constant sources of inspiration and support, mirroring the familial themes that appear so often in her pieces. This closeness imbues her work with a sincerity and emotional accessibility that transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries.
At Markowicz Fine Art, we are honored to represent an artist whose work speaks so directly to the heart. Eva Armisén reminds us that joy can be found in the simplest gestures — and that art, at its best, helps us reconnect with what matters most.
