Miami Beach, FL — The Sagamore Hotel Miami Beach, in collaboration with Markowicz Fine Art, is proud to present its annual exhibition “I’m Not a Trophy,” featuring the powerful work of artist, photographer, and charity founder Arno Elias. The exhibition will open with a special reception on December 4, 2019, during Miami Art Week and will be on view through February 2020. This year’s exhibition focuses on raising awareness about the threats facing endangered species and indigenous cultures due to poaching, trophy hunting, and habitat destruction.

Curated by the Sagamore’s resident art advisor, Sebastien Laboureau, and supported by Markowicz Fine Art, “I’m Not a Trophy” offers an immersive and educational experience through a stunning combination of fine art, music, design, photographs, and exclusive video footage. This unique collaboration aims to highlight the beauty of wildlife and vulnerable cultures while urging immediate action against the factors driving their endangerment.

“We are using this exhibition as a way to bring awareness to the increased threat to the very existence of wild animals due to trophy hunting, poaching, and habitat loss from human urbanization,” said Arno Elias. “There is an urgency for social and political change on the topic of killing as a sport, and we want to contribute by displaying fine art that depicts the species at most risk if we don’t take immediate action.”

The exhibition includes poignant depictions of iconic African animals like elephants and rhinoceroses, alongside portraits and artifacts from African tribes whose livelihoods depend on the fragile ecosystems at risk from poaching and trophy hunting. These works serve as a powerful reminder of the need to protect both the environment and the cultural heritage of indigenous communities.

A standout feature of the exhibition is The Giraffe Lounge by Pascal Blondeau, an installation that presents plush animals arranged as guests at a formal dinner party, symbolizing the impact of global warming on wildlife. This piece, along with Elias’s evocative photographs and multimedia components, challenges viewers to confront the pressing environmental issues of our time.
