Keith Haring was invited to documenta 7 in Kassel in 1982, the year of his SoHo debut at Tony Shafrazi Gallery.
Curated by Rudi Fuchs, the seventh documenta brought Haring, then 24, into the most closely watched exhibition of contemporary art in Europe. The same year he had his first solo show in SoHo.
