Presented at Christie’s Paris, Nouvelle ère – Entrez en matière(s) brought together approximately fifty sculptures by Patrick Roger. Works in bronze, aluminum and silver ranged from intimate objects to monumental pieces, offering one of the first substantial Paris presentations devoted specifically to Roger’s practice in permanent materials.
An Exhibition, Not a Sale
The presentation was an exhibition hosted in the Paris rooms of Christie’s. No works were offered at auction: the house lent its space to a survey of a sculptor whose reputation had until then travelled through other channels.
Fifty Works, Three Metals
Bronze, aluminum and silver each answer differently to the same modeled form. Bronze holds the weight and the trace of the hand, aluminum lightens a volume that reads as heavy, and silver turns a surface into a reflector of the room around it.
Hung and placed across that range of scales — from pieces held in the hand to works that had to be walked around — the exhibition set out the breadth of Roger’s sculptural output in a single Paris venue.
