Annalù is a master of metamorphosis.
Born in San Donà di Piave, Venice, in 1976, and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, the 'floating city' remains an important source of inspiration for her work, alongside patterns found in nature and ancient Italian methods.
With an almost scientific approach to her work, Annalù is dedicated to perfecting the artistic use of resin glass. She has expanded the field of resin-glass sculpture by incorporating materials such as bitumen, cement, sand, paper, bark, and roots in addition to Murano glass, fiberglass, and resin. A master of her craft, Annalù creates illusions through the playful yet meticulous use of these materials; apparently fragile constellations hide strong fiber structures; seemingly solid matter is taken apart, and liquids solidify. Her work balances transparency and opacity, disintegration and assembly.
Thanks to her delicate technique, Annalù seems able to immortalize otherwise ephemeral phenomena, freezing splashes of water and rays of light in time, while concrete objects blur and dematerialize before our eyes. This play evokes luminescent water landscapes and fantastical architectures in an ode to her beloved city. We recognize the colors and texture of its lagoon, reflecting the stunning architecture built on its precarious shores. Immersing ourselves in these creations, we gain a sensation of being suspended in time and place – in a sort of non-place – ourselves.
This suspension in time is also a timelessness, speaking to the eternal transience of the world and reminding us of the fleeting nature of human experience. Annalù’s works speak of transitory phases and recurring cycles, of time lost and retraced. The principles of alchemy, of turning raw materials into something more valuable, underlie her art: always suggesting passage, transience, and transformation; in other words, always in a process of becoming.
Her sculptures, like the "Dreamcatcher Eye of Eden" (2024) shown above, find themselves in a dynamic balance, a constant in-between: between far and near, fantasy and reality, presence and memory. Radiating an otherworldly, ethereal mystery, where the parameters are not fixed or stable, Annalù’s works evoke a dream world, a certain rêverie. With their abstract character, the sculptures leave room for the imagination; as we let them touch us, we begin to glimpse other realities and remember mythical tales.
Full of lyricism and symbolism, referencing rituals and traditions, Annalù’s three-dimensional works mesmerize the spectator and create a sense of enchantment. They are invitations to reflect and daydream, entering worlds that don’t obey the same rules and laws of nature, suggesting a renewed, contemporary spirituality.
Annalù’s works – the intriguing universe of her imagination and the mastery of her technical execution – have garnered international acclaim. Her pieces have been exhibited in prestigious galleries and museums around the world, including the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, and the European Cultural Centre. Annalù has also been the recipient of numerous awards, recognizing her innovation and contribution to the field of contemporary art.
Beyond her exhibitions, Annalù engages in various artistic collaborations and public art projects, further expanding the reach and impact of her work. Her installations often interact with their environment, creating immersive experiences that challenge and inspire viewers. Through her art, Annalù continues to push the boundaries of what is possible at the forefront of the newest art trends in 2024, exploring the intersection of art, nature, and science, and inviting us all to see the world through a lens of wonder and transformation.
