Metis Atash

Punkbuddha

PunkBuddha is the body of work Metis Atash is best known for. Her vision is rooted in Daoism — the search for harmony between the cosmos, humanity and nature — and the seated Buddha becomes the place where that search meets its opposite: the vocabulary of punk and of pop. The figures are moulded in fibreglass, then painted, lacquered with automotive finishes and encrusted with tens of thousands of genuine Swarovski crystals, so that a form associated with stillness is made to glitter and refuse it.
