A large-scale compass intervention on the Centre Pompidou forecourt, extending L’Atlas’s signs into public space.
For Ne perds pas le nord, L’Atlas developed a large compass on the forecourt of the Centre Pompidou. His exhibition history dates the intervention to 2008. The work shifted a graphic sign from a surface held before the viewer to a space that could be approached and crossed.
The compass makes orientation both its subject and its form. Its placement on the forecourt turns the surrounding architecture and the movement of visitors into part of the encounter with the work.
