A group exhibition at the Fondation Cartier examining graffiti through its history and contemporary forms.
The Fondation Cartier presented Né dans la rue – Graffiti in Paris in 2009–2010, approaching graffiti as a developing artistic practice rather than a single visual style. L’Atlas’s inclusion placed his investigation of lettering within this wider history of images made in and for the city.
The presentation provides an early institutional reference for a practice moving between the written name, the painted image and the city. It offers a context for understanding how his calligraphic structures developed alongside other approaches to contemporary graffiti.
