Le Carnet de voyage d’Alain Godon
An open-air project in Étaples-sur-Mer
Musée de la Place (place du Général-de-Gaulle), Chantier Leprêtre and sites across the town, Étaples-sur-Mer, France

An open-air project organised by the town of Étaples-sur-Mer, presenting Alain Godon’s imagery in public spaces, largely through reproductions.
In the Streets of the Town
Rather than an exhibition of original works in a gallery space, Le Carnet de voyage d’Alain Godon took the form of an outdoor route through Étaples-sur-Mer, bringing the artist’s compositions to passers-by over the autumn and winter of 2021.
Around fifty reproductions were installed on the place du Général-de-Gaulle — renamed the “Musée de la Place” for the occasion — and along the port and the streets of the town centre, at sixteen exhibition points. Further works were shown at the Chantier Leprêtre, the town’s traditional boatyard, and at the médiathèque, the tourist office and the town hall. Admission was free, and guided tours were offered throughout November and December.
A 96-page book, Alain Godon, carnet de voyage, by Jean-Christophe Macquet, accompanied the exhibition.
