Beyond the Golden Mean in Monte Carlo
A Monumental Bronze Installation by Carole A. Feuerman

Beyond the Golden Mean brought one of Carole A. Feuerman’s monumental divers to the heart of Monte Carlo in the summer of 2021. Installed outside the Fairmont Monte Carlo and presented by Bel-Air Fine Art, the patinated bronze figure rises vertically on its hands, transforming an athletic gesture normally completed in an instant into a permanent study of control and balance.
The installation opened during Feuerman’s 2021 European tour, which connected presentations in Monte Carlo, Saint-Tropez, Venice and Rome and placed her sculpture in a series of architectural, urban and institutional settings.
Balance at Monumental Scale
Beyond the Golden Mean turns an athletic movement into an exercise in structural and psychological tension. The diver appears to defy gravity, supported by the smallest possible point of contact while the body stretches upward in a continuous vertical line.
Feuerman has repeatedly used swimmers and divers to explore the relationship between physical discipline and interior resolve. In this work, monumentality amplifies that tension. The figure is highly visible within its surroundings, yet its concentration remains private, creating a contrast between public spectacle and inward control.
The Monte Carlo setting added another layer to that encounter. Positioned outside the Fairmont, the sculpture entered a space shaped by architecture, traffic, visitors and Mediterranean light rather than the controlled environment of a gallery. Its dark bronze surface and elongated silhouette changed throughout the day as viewers approached it from different angles.
The installation formed part of Carole A. Feuerman’s 2021 European program with Bel-Air Fine Art. A Grand Opening at the Fairmont Monte Carlo on July 8 was followed by events and presentations in Saint-Tropez, Venice and Rome, extending the artist’s monumental work across several European settings.
