Zodiac: The Mysterious Powers of the Creative

Zodiac: Mysterious Power of the Creative brought together 42 artists at the Medici Museum of Art to consider how creativity emerges from forces that are difficult to measure directly: intuition, memory, belief, symbolic systems and personal experience. Working across sculpture, painting and multimedia, the exhibition treated the zodiac not as a sequence of twelve illustrations, but as a shared framework through which very different artistic languages could meet.
Organized by the Medici Museum of Art and the Feuerman Sculpture Foundation, the exhibition placed Carole A. Feuerman alongside established and emerging artists from several countries. Her participation connected her own sculptural practice with a broader commitment to creating visibility and institutional opportunities for other artistic voices.
Beyond the Twelve Signs
Rather than asking each artist to illustrate a specific astrological sign, the exhibition approached the zodiac as a system through which people have long interpreted character, connection, time and the unknown.
The works moved between bodily presence, abstraction, cosmic imagery, ritual, geometry and material transformation. Some treated celestial symbolism as a language of identity, while others used it more freely to examine cycles, intuition, chance or the relationship between individual experience and larger structures.
This diversity was central to the exhibition. Instead of proposing a single interpretation, Zodiac created encounters between contrasting visual languages. Meaning developed through proximity, allowing sculpture, painting and multimedia work to offer distinct responses to questions that cannot always be expressed through rational explanation alone.
A Platform Across Generations
Curated by Katelyn Amendolara-Russo, the exhibition brought internationally recognized artists into dialogue with emerging practitioners. This intergenerational structure allowed individual works to be considered not only through reputation or career history, but through the strength of the ideas and intuitions they introduced into the shared space.
Carole A. Feuerman’s role extended beyond her own participation. Through the Feuerman Sculpture Foundation, the project became part of a wider effort to connect artists, museums and local audiences while supporting experimentation across different media and stages of artistic development.
During the exhibition, Feuerman’s monumental bronze Justice was unveiled on the museum grounds. Together with Poseidon, the work contributed to the development of a public sculpture garden and extended the relationship between the artist, her foundation and the Medici Museum beyond the temporary galleries.
In this context, Zodiac functioned both as an exhibition and as a model of cultural exchange: an established artist using institutional collaboration not only to present her own work, but also to create space for a broader community of artists.
