Global Travelers

Carole Feuerman debuted two new monumental sculptures, My Body My Rules and Tranquility, at Paradiso Castello 1260 during the 60th Venice Biennale, staged that year under the theme Foreigners Everywhere. Feuerman is best known for her hyperrealist figures, rendered in painstaking, near-photographic detail in resin, marble, and bronze, and has spent her career using the human body, most often in states of rest, movement, or quiet defiance, to explore questions of identity and self-possession. Presented publicly for the first time in Venice, these two works extend that inquiry to a monumental scale, placing themes of bodily autonomy and stillness within a Biennale explicitly concerned with movement, migration, and who gets to belong where. Set against the Giardini's historic grounds, the sculptures invited visitors to consider both works as part of a larger, ongoing conversation about the traveling body itself.
