Sea Idylls — Park Avenue

With the support of the Patrons of Park Avenue (POPA), the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association (MHNA), and the City of New York, nine monumental bronze sculptures by American sculptor Carole Feuerman took over the Park Avenue malls between 34th and 39th Streets. Feuerman, one of the three founders of the Hyperrealism movement and the only woman among them to work at outdoor, monumental scale, filled the divide with swimmers caught mid-motion: water droplets rendered onto bronze skin, limbs arched in balance, expressions somewhere between exertion and calm. The installation traces back to her own childhood at Jones Beach on Long Island, and to a lifelong pull toward water that has shaped her work ever since. Sea Idylls ran alongside a solo retrospective at Galeries Bartoux on Central Park South, a companion show that opened up her process directly, down to a reconstruction of her own studio. What began as a planned run through the end of 2023 proved popular enough to be extended into the following spring, giving New Yorkers and visitors alike an extra season to walk the malls and encounter her swimmers up close.
