Wishbone, 2025

In Wishbone, Tom Lieber builds an atmospheric composition through layers of pale, almost luminous whites interrupted by deep passages of black and spontaneous accents of blue and ochre. Gestural lines and partially erased forms emerge from the surface without ever becoming fully figurative, creating a constant tension between presence and disappearance. The darker lower register gives the painting a powerful sense of weight, while the expansive upper field remains open, fluid and almost ethereal. Characteristic of Lieber’s intuitive approach to abstraction, the work feels simultaneously spontaneous and deeply considered, capturing the physical energy of painting while leaving its imagery deliberately unresolved.
