Sale Ends (V. 2), signed, 2017
$35,000
InquireSale Ends depicts four cloaked women, rendered in Banksy’s unmistakable black-and-white stencil style against a stark white background. Bowed and prostrated before a bold red sign, their poses evoke the sorrowful figures often found at the base of the crucifixion in Renaissance paintings.
The striking red sign, reminiscent of attention-grabbing shop signage, critiques consumer culture, highlighting how society is drawn to buy things it doesn’t truly need. Through this imagery, Banksy equates modern consumerism with a near-religious devotion, suggesting that materialism has become a kind of secular faith.
Sale Ends (V.2) is a reworking of the original print released at Barely Legal and holds the distinction of being the final print issued by Pictures on Walls before the edition was terminated.
