Phil Macquet

Phil Macquet is a French painter, born the October 8, 1967 in Lille, France. The first stencil of Phil Macquet and his sidekick François Duquenne appeared in the streets of Lille in 1984. The duo became known under the pseudonym Dr. Table and was noticed by Chritoph Maisenbacher, the agent of many European street artists. In 1991, their first stencil artwork was ordered by the museum of Charleville-Mézières to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of French poet Rimbaud's. In parallel to his life as a stencil artist, Phil Macquet began studying at the faculty of Fine Arts of Lille, and then at the Sorbonne in Paris were he mastered in Art and Image technology. During this time he continued his researches at the ENS of Cachan. In the 90s, the development of digital permitted to Phil Macquet to extend his artwork to a new stencil dimension. He abandons the spray and chose the pixel as his raw material. It was during the 2000s that the advent of mobile technology allows Phil Macquet to materialize his researches and to develop augmented painting. His avant-garde technique, called Digital Art, uses high-definition images and digital screens to make art pieces come alive through mobile device. The digital applications permit the discovery of photos, sounds and videos that illustrate the particular message of the artwork, allowing the viewer to be a participant in the work and to share the exhilarating experience of creativity. By collecting key images and interviews of his subjects, the artist can also create a custom commission, a unique way to capture a moment in memory. Phil Macquet debuted his one-of-a-kind technique at Markowicz Fine Art during Miami Art Basel week in 2013.
