Gaspard Mitz, a Paris-based artist, found his artistic niche in crafting enchanting narratives within miniature realms through his Box Stories.
His creative journey commenced in December 2010 when he fashioned his maiden Box Story as a heartfelt gift for his girlfriend. Self-taught and driven by the positive reception of his initial box, Mitz continued to reimagine miniature figures, sculpting bespoke destinies for them in whimsical, larger-than-life settings.
Drawing inspiration from the delicate beauty of 1/87 scale model figurines, Mitz's artistic evolution was influenced by his fascination with objects like music boxes, cuckoo clocks, and the masterpieces of artist Joseph Cornell. He channeled his admiration for Japanese aestheticism into his art, constructing scenes within serene and uncluttered environments using chosen materials like wood, polystyrene, foam sheets, and paper.
The Box Stories, limited-edition creations meticulously handcrafted by Mitz, grace concept stores, galleries, and contemporary art fairs both in France and internationally. Each piece narrates a unique tale, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the captivating narratives spun within these meticulously crafted miniature worlds.
